Brisbane have locked in priority target Hugh McCluggage for three more AFL seasons, securing his services until the end of 2024.

McCluggage has established himself as one of Brisbane's key pieces in four seasons at the Gabba, finishing third in best and fairest voting and among the 40-man All-Australian squad the past two seasons.

The wingman was at the top of the Lions' list of off-contract talent but, in re-signing until the end of the 2024 campaign, he joins fellow core members Harris Andrews (2025), Charlie Cameron (2025), Jarrod Berry (2024) and Cam Rayner (2023) on long-term deals as the club hunts for a premiership.

Zac Bailey and Brandon Starcevich are out of contract at the end of the 2021 season, while the Lions last week re-signed ruckman Oscar McInerney until 2024.

Victorian McCluggage's arrival at Brisbane came whey they were struggling for relevance but he said it had ensured he appreciated their subsequent rise, finishing second in the past two regular seasons.

"We didn't win a lot of games in the first couple of years but ... I could sense something was building," he said.

"We couldn't wait to bring that belief to life for the fans who supported us through the tough times.

"When the wins started coming we discovered there's no better feeling than achieving something with your mates, and for the people who supported you all the way.

"Yes, we've had a couple of good seasons now, but none of us are satisfied."

The Lions begin their AFL season against Sydney at the Gabba on March 20.
