Hawthorn ace James Worpel has been offered a one-game AFL suspension, slightly souring the Hawks' mighty upset against Sydney.

The midfield gun will miss Hawthorn's game against Essendon next week if he accepts a ban for a dangerous tackle on the Swans' Harry Cunningham.

Worpel was cited by the match review officer for the incident during the third quarter at the SCG on Friday night as the Hawks stunned the Swans by 38 points.

The incident was graded and assessed as careless contact, medium impact and high contact.

Worpel was the only player to feel the wrath of the MRO, with Sydney youngster Sam Wicks booked for making forceful front-on contact against Hawthorn's Will Day.

Wicks can accept a one-game ban for the incident which was graded as careless contact, medium impact and high contact.

Sydney have the bye next week before playing Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval in round 15.
