THEY SAID IT: "I'm glad I had a mask on because no one needed to read my lips in that moment" - Geelong coach Chris Scott presumably let fly with a few expletives as part of his exuberant celebrations in the box after Gary Rohan's match-winning goal against the Western Bulldogs.
STATS THAT MATTER: Geelong veterans Joel Selwood and Tom Hawkins racked up their 194th win as teammates in the triumph over the Bulldogs, breaking the previous AFL/VFL record held by Richmond duo Kevin Bartlett and Francis Bourke. Former Cats Corey Enright and Jimmy Bartel (190) sit third on the list, with Selwood and ex-teammate Harry Taylor (188) fourth.
PLAYER OF THE ROUND: Port Adelaide midfielder Ollie Wines ran riot against hapless Gold Coast on Saturday, racking up 44 disposals to fall just one possession short of the club record set by Peter Burgoyne against North Melbourne in 2008.
KEY MOMENT: Gary Rohan's strong mark under pressure with just seconds remaining on Friday night gave him the chance to be the hero for Geelong - and he grabbed it with both hands. Rohan's set shot after the siren started to the right but drifted back to give the Cats a thrilling five-point win over the Western Bulldogs. It was the second time he has won a game after the siren, with the first happening when he broke Essendon hearts while playing for Sydney in 2017.
TALKING POINT: Expected to be improvers this season, both Carlton and Gold Coast stumbled to 4-9 with completely uninspired performances. The Blues never looked like defeating GWS, falling to their biggest defeat since 2019 to increase pressure on coach David Teague.

WHAT'S NEXT: The byes are over and nine games will again be played next weekend. Brisbane and Geelong renew hostilities at the Gabba on Thursday night, with the Lions eager to exact revenge from their controversial one-point at GMHBA Stadium defeat earlier this season. Finals contenders Port Adelaide and Sydney clash on Saturday night, while West Coast host the Western Bulldogs in another blockbuster on Sunday.
