Brisbane star Lachie Neale is in doubt for Saturday's AFL clash with Adelaide after missing training in Melbourne on Thursday.

The Lions trained at Collingwood's Olympic Park ahead of their game at Adelaide Oval after leaving Queensland on Tuesday before the state's COVID lockdown hit.

Neale was relegated to work on a stationary bike and is battling a calf strain picked up during the week.

It wouldn't be the first time this season the Brownlow Medallist has battled injury, after a back issue in the early rounds of the year and then a five-week layoff after surgery on a syndesmosis injury.

Neale also hurt his shoulder in the opening quarter of last week's win over Geelong before returning to play out the match.

Earlier on Thursday the Lions confirmed Irish defender James Madden had undergone surgery on a fractured bone in his hand.

Madden, who has made five appearances this season in the absence of Darcy Gardiner and Ryan Lester, is expected to be out for one to two weeks as he recovers.

Veteran Grant Birchall is available for selection against the Crows after missing last week's game with illness while Lester (hamstring) has also travelled to Melbourne with the squad.
