Breakout Sydney Swans utility Jordan Dawson's proposed move to Adelaide remains in limbo heading into the final day of the AFL trade period.

Jordan Dawson could end up in the pre-season draft as the Sydney Swans and Adelaide continue to haggle over the breakout utility leading into the final day of the AFL trade period.

The 24-year-old's move home to South Australia is among a number of deals that need to be done before Wednesday's 7.30pm trade deadline.

Dawson is adamant on shifting to the Crows, after enjoying a career-best season in 2021 to finish third in the Swans' best-and-fairest.

The Swans offered him a five-year deal to remain in the harbour city, but Dawson is set on playing for the club he supported growing up.

Adelaide are desperate to secure Dawson, but are not willing to part with their first-round draft selection which sits at pick four.

Crows football director Mark Riccuito last week floated the idea of taking Dawson in November's pre-season draft if a resolution could not be reached with the Swans.

The deal is likely to come down to the final hour in what has been one of the most low-key trade periods of recent times.

The proposed ruck merry-go-round is still in the works, with Hawthorn ruckman Jon Ceglar trying to get to Geelong which would allow Darcy Fort to head from the Cats to the Brisbane Lions.

To offset the loss of Ceglar, the Hawks should land Collingwood's Max Lynch, who has been restricted to just three games in four seasons with the Magpies.

If Lynch exits, Mason Cox could be given a reprieve as the American tall has been told to wait until later this week to find out if he is given another contract at Collingwood.

Port Adelaide big man Peter Ladhams, who is contracted with the Power next year, has been in talks with the Swans.
