AFLW Saint Smith sidelined with ACL tear

3 minute read

The AFLW's ACL curse has struck again, with St Kilda young gun Tyanna Smith to miss the season.

AFLW young gun Tyanna Smith will miss the coming season because of an ACL injury.

The Saints said the 19-year-old midfielder hurt her left knee at Saturday training and scans confirmed Smith is out for an extended spell.

"This is a very disappointing situation and we're all really feeling for Tyanna," Saints AFLW boss Tessie McManus said.

"Tyanna had been having a really promising pre-season, looking to build upon her great debut earlier this year."

Smith played nine games in her debut season, earning a Rising Star nomination, and she finished runner-up in the club best and fairest voting.

Anterior cruciate ligament injuries continue to be a major issue for the AFLW, with North Melbourne's Elisha King also suffering a season-ending injury last week.

Last month, the Saints announced their dual best-and-fairest winner Georgia Patrikios was having indefinite time away from the club.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
