Sydney co-captain Dane Rampe has been ruled out until at least the AFL's mid-season bye due to a neck injury.

Rampe hasn't played since the round-four loss to Port Adelaide, and the 32-year-old faces an uncertain period on the sidelines due to the nature of the injury.

"Dane's neck injury has not resolved," Sydney's head of medical services Damian Raper told the club's website.

"He has been reviewed by specialists who have advised that whilst the timeline for recovery remains uncertain, he is not expected to be available before the bye."

The extended loss of Rampe is a big blow to the Swans, with fellow defender Paddy McCartin also facing an uncertain future due to his latest concussion, believed to be the 10th of his career.

"Paddy continues to focus on his overall recovery. He continues to improve on a daily basis," Raper said.

Matt Roberts will miss the next eight to 10 weeks with a knee injury, but forward Lance Franklin (knee) and defender Tom McCartin (concussion) will return in Saturday's clash with GWS.
