3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2023 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

WESTERN BULLDOGS v HAWTHORN

Saturday 29 April @ Marvel Stadium

Coming off probably their most comprehensive all around effort of the year, the Bulldogs wander home from Perth and get the last placed Hawthorn.

If you believe the Dogs are more than just a 50:50 side then the prospects here don't look good for the Hawks.

There wasn't much worry to be honest against the Dockers. Even playing away, they never had the crowd against them and basically had they kicked half straight, it would have been a slaughter.

17.16 really should have been 21.12. Those who traditionally get their hands on the sherrin for them did so much more last week and did more with it.

There is no doubt Bontempelli has been having such a grand start but the results of his and his sides influence has not translated to scoreboard positives.

It did more so in Perth. He also hit that scoreboard too and that is when he is at his greatest. Macrae and Treloar are their gathers and Liberatore in and under.

So if that happens more and more then the likes of Ugle-Hagan, but more so Naughton, become huge contributors. He will kick 8 one day soon and it could be this week against the Hawks.

They tried hard in Launceston but a late few errors and some interesting decisions from officials didn't get them over the line.

Adelaide keep coming this year and a team lacking confidence and player strength as Hawthorn are, could  not withstand.

13 up with not long on the clock, the ball flowed only one way. In the grand scheme of things, Sam Mitchell will be pleased with the effort but not the ending. They may sit last but playing like that should get them 5 or so wins by the end of 2023. Will that mean the No 1 Draft pick?

They just can't get enough power from the forward line still missing Mitch Lewis. That does change with his inclusion. What they have right now won't frighten good sides. Their backline is a strength but will need to be this game against such a big lot of boppers.

You have to like the prospects of a bit of a walloping here. 4 of the last 5 they've met have gone the Dogs way and by anywhere between 3 and 7 goals.

Fancy this might be worse. Aaron Naughton to kick a bag.

Match Selection: Western Bulldogs by 49 points

Suggested Bets: Aaron Naughton 5+ goals @ $6.00
