3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2023 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

RICHMOND v GEELONG

Friday 12 May @ MCG

The first of one of those cross-over double header Fridays begins in Melbourne – can someone explain the logic of the overlap?

It may be a repeat of the 2020 Grand Final but these two sides have gone in different directions since Dusty Martin tore the last half to shreds.

Richmond is highly likely to be a bottom 6/8 side by season's end and Geelong could be chasing back to back flags.

It took a long time for Richmond to surge past West Coast at the MCG which in of itself is saying something. The last third of the game was in their direction but it took a long while.

Their two big recruits played their best games as a collective with Bolton joining in. He hasn't been on fire but when he is, there are few better.

In some ways Geelong were a bit the same. Adelaide closed after half time and it was sort of game on but it reads on paper comfortably in the end with 4 goals the margin.

It was a more even effort with no standout - Dangerfield's injury of concern for an older player albeit they are playing it down.

Jeremy Cameron is just in superb touch and while they don't hand out Brownlows for forwards (like ever bar Plugger), he is every chance to win all the other awards if he remains this dominant and injury free.

There are 40 points between them on the percentage tally and yet they have only 1 point difference defensively. It's all in the front half. So you'd say if the Richmond defence had a game on then it could be close. Otherwise it's not going to be fun because they won't kick a score.

A scrap would suit Richmond, a shoot-out Geelong. The Tigers record in playing the Cats, bar their golden era, has been a shocker. Surely it continues but the Dangerfield loss makes it closer.

It will certainly be an interesting case study off the ground as well for well established reasons this week.

Match Selection: Geelong by 20 points

Suggested Bets: SGM - Jeremy Cameron 3+ goals/20 disposals @ $3.00
