Legspinner Amanda-Jade Wellington was the only real winner as rain washed out all four WBBL matches in Launceston on Saturday.

Legspinner Amanda-Jade Wellington gave her Ashes hopes a quick boost before rain caused the WBBL's Super Saturday to turn into a complete washout in Launceston.

Wellington picked up 2-16 from three overs in the opening match of the four-game schedule at Invermay Park between her Adelaide Strikers and the Hobart Hurricanes.

Australia's leading wrist-spinner Georgia Wareham's ACL injury means every wicket Wellington takes enhances her prospects of a national recall.

The 24-year-old has taken five wickets in her three WBBL appearances this summer.

She last played for the national team in 2018 and has one Test appearance to her name in 2017.

Wellington's performance was the only talking point from the field with the Hurricanes 5-107 off 16 overs when the weather forced players form the field.

No further play was possible and the persistent rain caused the following match at the same venue between the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat to be abandoned without a ball bowled.

Conditions were no better at the nearby University of Tasmania Stadium for the day's two other matches.

No play was possible in either the much-anticipated Sydney Smash between the Thunder and Sixers or the scheduled final game of the day between the Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades.

By the time the fourth match was cancelled 16mm of rain had fallen since 9am in Launceston.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting showers to ease on Sunday morning with Launceston set to host three more fixtures starting with the Strikers facing the Heat at 10.15am AEDT.

That game may well be affected by the weather but the improving forecast will have organisers hopeful play will be possible in the subsequent matches between the Sixers and Renegades and Scorchers against the Thunder.
