STATE OF PLAY - Australia 2-20 in reply to Pakistan's 282 at stumps on day one at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

MAN OF THE DAY - Nathan Lyon. Gave Australia a dream start when he snared four wickets in the space of six balls late in Tuesday's morning session. The offspinner removed Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam without the hosts adding to their score.

KEY STAT - Lyon's inspired performance took his career tally to 314 and lifted him to fourth on Australia's all-time Test wicket-takers list. Only Shane Warne (708), Glenn McGrath (563) and Dennis Lillee (355) have more scalps to their name.

KEY MOMENT - Pakistan were looking comfortable at 1-57 when Azhar was beaten for flight and caught-and-bowled by Lyon, prompting a big collapse. Just an over earlier, Marnus Labuschagne had dropped a simple catch at midwicket to gift opener Fakhar Zaman a lifeline.
