Shane Watson's Chennai Super Kings saw their unbeaten start to the Indian Premier League campaign ended after slumping to a 37-run defeat to Mumbai Indians.

Batting first, Mumbai were sparked by Suryakumar Yadav, who cracked a 43-ball 83 before classy left-hander Krunal Pandya contributed 42, including five fours, at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

Hardik Pandya (25 not out) and Kieron Pollard (17 not out) combined well, amassing 29 in the final over to take the hosts 5-170.

In reply, Mumbai's young Australian Jason Behrendorff claimed the wicket of Ambati Rayudu for a duck in the first over while his veteran compatriot Watson fell to Lasith Malinga for just five.

And despite a 54-partnership between Kedar Jadhav (58) and MS Dhoni (12), who put on a 54-run partnership, the Kings were unable to close the gap as Malinga (3-34) and Pandya (3-20) ensured they could only muster 8-133.

The victory was Mumbai's first at home this season while it ensured they have become the first franchise in the IPL to reach 100 wins.
