Wicketkeeper Tom Latham will captain a weakened New Zealand XI to face an Australian XI in three Cricket World Cup warm-up matches in May.

Latham is one of five members of the Black Caps World Cup squad who will feature in the games in Brisbane, with most of the leading players unavailable because of Indian Premier League or English county commitments.

The others who are World Cup-bound are batsman Henry Nicholls, allrounder Jimmy Neesham, seamer Matt Henry and backup wicketkeeper Tom Blundell, who is yet to play a one-day international.

All of the 13 players have represented New Zealand previously, aside from batsman Will Young.

The warm-up games are on May 5, 7 and 9.

NEW ZEALAND XI: Tom Latham (capt), Hamish Rutherford, George Worker, Henry Nicholls, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Tom Blundell, Doug Bracewell, Todd Astle, Matt Henry, Hamish Bennett, Blair Tickner.
