David Warner and Steve Smith have been given a gentle taste of crowd hostility from English fans at Southampton's Hampshire Bowl ground.

The pair, who made their return to international cricket in Saturday's official World Cup warm-up, were braced for a hot reception from the Barmy Army following their 12-month bans following the ball tampering incident in South Africa.

Warner, who opened the batting with Aaron Finch, received a few isolated boos as he came out to bat, looked unaffected as he made a composed 43 from 55 balls before holing out to Jonny Bairstow off Liam Plunkett.

Smith experienced a similar reception from a crowd of about 8,000 as he came out to bat after Warner's dismissal.

After 25 overs, Australia were 3-128 with England losing fast bowler Mark Wood with a foot injury after the first ball of his fourth over.
