Australian captain Aaron Finch has scored his 14th ODI century against Sri Lanka to move to the top of the World Cup run-scoring charts.

Aarron Finch has made the highest score by an Australian captain at a World Cup after cracking a brilliant 153 against Sri Lanka at The Oval.

Finch equalled the total he amassed in March against Pakistan, from 132 balls, clubbing five sixes and 15 boundaries.

Ricky Ponting's 140 in the 2003 final against South Africa was the previous highest score by an Australian skipper.

Finch brought up his 14th ODI century with a six over long-on as he catapulted himself to the top of the World Cup run-scoring charts.

The Victorian has scored 341 runs in five innings with his opening partner David Warner second on 280 and England's Joe Root third with 279 from four visits to the crease.

En route to equalling the tournament's highest individual score made by England's Jason Roy last week against Bangladesh, the 32-year-old cracked 20 runs off a Dhananjaya de Silva over.

However, Usman Khawaja suffered another failure, dismissed for 10 when Isuru Udana took a regulation catch on the square-leg boundary.

Khawaja has scored 98 runs in five innings after being shifted down the order to accommodate Warner, the first wicket to fall on Saturday for a far-from-fluent 26.
