Marcus Stoinis has sent down two overs in a bowling test before returning to the nets as he tries to prove his fitness to face Bangladesh on Thursday.

Marcus Stoinis' hopes of playing in the World Cup again are still alive after he survived a fitness test without issue at Trent Bridge on Tuesday morning.

Stoinis bowled two overs under the watchful eye of physio David Beakley, strength and conditioning coach Aaron Kellett and bowling coach Adam Griffith.

Attempting to recover from a side strain, he reached close to full intensity before returning to the nets and bowling for another 10 minutes.

Coaching staff will now see how he pulls up from the work out ahead of Thursday's clash with Bangladesh, but at the least it's expected he'll stay with the squad.

"He's a chance," head coach Justin Langer said.

"I have to assess it, but it looked like he moved really well and batting."

Stoinis had bowled briefly at a smaller work out on Monday, but Tuesday was always considered D-Day ahead of Thursday's clash with Bangladesh.

Desperate to prove his fitness, he reached far more speed than the day prior and bowled off a full run up.

The West Australian hasn't played since he was injured in the loss to India last Sunday, with side strains usually resulting in a much longer layoff.

"He's an elite athlete and professional," Langer said.

"He's done everything possible to get himself fit. He wouldn't give up the opportunity for anything.

"He's very determined, so it doesn't surprise me with where he's at now.

"It's a credit to him and our medical staff for getting him up. Hopefully he can have a real impact on the tournament."

Mitch Marsh remains with the team on stand by, but could return to Australia A duties in Northampton on Thursday if he is not required.

Meanwhile, Nathan Coulter-Nile will also be available for selection, after being "stiff and sore" before the win over Sri Lanka.
