Australian coach Matthew Mott described Meg Lanning's record-breaking batting exploits against England as the best innings he has ever seen.

Lanning set a world record for women's international Twenty20 cricket with an unbeaten 133 as Australia recorded their best ever total of 3-226 before securing a 93-run victory on Friday.

Mott admitted he was "part-coach, part-fan" as he watched Lanning tear apart the hosts who had won everyone of the 14 previous internationals played at Chelmsford.

The victory retained the women's Ashes series but team achievements were overshadowed by Lanning's 63-ball exhibition, which included 17 fours and seven sixes.

Her barrage enabled Lanning to eclipse her previous best of 126 against Ireland in 2014.

"The word masterclass comes out, that innings was a fantastic thing for people to watch," Mott said.

"She never looked like slogging at all, she played cricket shots which we always talk about. She went through the gears up and down.

"She was ruthless and when we needed a boundary she took the right option."

Mott felt Lanning's skills particularly when it comes to cutting the ball were as good as anything he has seen in cricket.

"Meg is something different. When you get people from the men's team come and watch her play they sit in awe at the way she puts pace on the ball behind the wicket," he said.

The Australian skipper had been short of her best earlier in the series, despite two half centuries in five innings visits to the crease, and was desperate tpo make a meaningful contribution.

"She's incredibly hard on herself and that's why she's so good I think," Mott said.

The remaining two T20 internationals take place in Hove on Sunday and Bristol on Wednesday.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
