D'Arcy Short staked a claim for a recall to Australia's one-day side as his belligerent century helped Western Australia to a win over Tasmania.

Western Australian opener D'Arcy Short again displayed his credentials in limited overs cricket with a big-hitting century at the WACA as the home side eased past Tasmania for a second hefty win to open their one-day cup campaign.

Short pummelled a rapid-fire 129 off just 101 balls to lead his side to 312 off their 50 overs on Wednesday, with Tasmania falling well short after being dismissed for 210 off 44.4 overs for a 102-run defeat.

The left-hander showed the kind of form which earned a brief call-up to the Australian one-day team early last summer by clubbing 12 fours and four sixes, bringing up his third one-day ton off just 83 balls.

The Northern Territory-raised Short was WA's one-day cup top-scorer last season, with a portfolio that included an Australian record 257 against Queensland.

Tasmania were always behind the required run-rate despite a 70 run opening stand between Caleb Jewell (45) and the reliable Ben McDermott (25).

Jordan Silk contributed 42 while George Bailey scored 70 before being the ninth wicket to fall after being run out.

Paceman Jhye Richardson impressed for WA, claiming three top-order scalps in his 3-23.

It was a second loss in three days for the Tigers after their scarcely believable collapse of 6-12 resulted in a one run loss against Victoria.

Mitch Marsh became the latest Ashes tourist to make his first start of the domestic season, although the all-rounder made just 14 for WA.

Brother Shaun Marsh contributed an unruffled 42, while Test opener Cameron Bancroft added a run-a-ball 35 batting in an unaccustomed No.7 position.

Left-arm paceman Riley Meredith was one of the few shining lights for Tasmania with the left-armer returning 4-42 off his allotted overs.

Tasmania expect to line up with star run-scorer Matthew Wade on Sunday against South Australia for his first outing of the summer following his exertions in England.
