AUSTRALIA v PAKISTAN, FIRST TEST, DAY 1

Score: Pakistan - 240

Summary: After choosing to bat first Pakistan held firm early to put the pressure back on the Australian bowlers with a 75-run opening stand, before five wickets fell in the space of an hour. The tourists rebounded late, before Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins ripped through the tail to have them all out for 240.

Man of the moment: Third-umpire Michael Gough. The television official somehow ruled Pat Cummins had part of his foot behind the line when Muhammad Rizwan was caught behind. The decision bamboozled former players and ended Muhammad's rear-guard action, out for 37 off just 34 balls.

Key moment: Pakistan were in control at 0-75 when Pat Cummins caught the edge of Shan Masood and Steve Smith took the catch at second slip. It prompted a collapse of 4-3 and put Australia well on top.

Stat of the day: Azhar Ali and Shan Masood helped Pakistan become the first touring team get through the opening session of the summer without the loss of a wicket in 35 years, dating back to Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge for the West Indies in 1984.

Quote of the day: "He's No.1 (in the world Test rankings) and as a gentle guy off the field he won't push his case forward. He's content to say 'wherever you want to put me I'll do it'. - Brett Lee in commentary for Fox Cricket suggesting Pat Cummins is perhaps too nice to ask for the new ball, after he again slipped back to first change behind Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
