The Sydney Cricket Ground is "very interested" in hosting a day-night Test amid growing competition to host pink-ball cricket matches around Australia.

Perth's Optus Stadium will host the country's seventh Test under lights when Australia open their series with New Zealand on Thursday night.

Tests were exclusively seen as day events but night matches have been successful at both the box office and for ratings, as they fall during times when most fans are not working.

SCG Trust chairman Tony Shepherd is reportedly interested in the ground joining Adelaide Oval, Optus Stadium and Brisbane's Gabba in hosting day-night Tests.

"It would be something we would be very interested in," SCG Trust chairman Tony Shepherd told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age on Wednesday.

Hosting a third match at night could clash with Big Bash League matches, which Cricket Australia is keen to avoid, but free-to-air broadcaster Seven Network is open to considering it.
