A career-best Big Bash League knock from Perth Scorchers' Josh Inglis has come with high praise.

The 24-year-old opener and wicketkeeper hit 73 from 46 balls on Monday night as his side thrashed the Hobart Hurricanes to secure three straight wins.

Inglis hit four sixes, which included a ramp shot plus a slog onto the Bellerive Oval hill, in his third half-century of the tournament.

Former Test captain Ricky Ponting suggested in commentary on Channel 7 that Inglis had a likeness to Kiwi great Brendon McCullum.

"I hadn't (heard that before) but I'll take it," Inglis said after the 77-run win which has lifted Perth the third on the ladder.

"I'm just looking to go out there and enjoy myself. It a nice compliment to have.

"It was another stepping stone I thought. I took my game to another level just by taking (the innings) deeper."

The plaudits didn't end there, with current Test 'keeper Tim Paine describing Inglis as one of the purest young glovemen in the country.

He was one of several standouts for the Scorchers, who are building important momentum ahead of back-to-back matches against the ladder-leading Melbourne Stars on Wednesday and Saturday.

Inglis shared a crucial 109-run stand with skipper Mitch Marsh (40 from 29 balls) to pull Perth out of a tricky 2-16, while paceman Jhye Richardson took 4-19 to knock Hobart's chase on the head early.

"It's always good batting with the skipper. He's played a lot of cricket and is someone I can really lean on out there," Inglis said.

"We've been playing some good cricket in patches. We really feel like we're stringing games and wins together."
