Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur hopes her side's crushing T20 World Cup final loss to Australia will ultimately provide a boost for women's cricket in her country.

Kaur's young team was overawed by the occasion and the 86,174-strong crowd at the MCG on Sunday as they were bowled out for 99 in reply to the host's 4-184.

"I think getting into the final will definitely motivate many girls back home and they will come and play cricket," Kaur said.

"I think it will create momentum for us.

"I think it was a great tournament for us and hopefully in the future we'll give our best and try to win for our country."

Player-of-the-match Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney set the 85-run win up with a 115-run opening partnership.

But both were dropped early in their respective knocks and were aided by some poor bowling.

"When you lose half-chances it's hard for a bowler to get their confidence back," Kaur said.

"I don't think we were fielding under pressure but unfortunately we were unable to take those chances and that was very crucial because they were both in great form.

"You cannot drop those catches ... after that they batted really well.

"What we were expecting of ourselves, we didn't play that cricket."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
