Mitchell Marsh will have scans on a potentially serious ankle injury after the Australian allrounder went down in the first over of his IPL campaign.

Marsh looked to twist his ankle while attempting to field in his follow-through for his new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday night.

His attempts to continue the over lasted just two more balls before he limped off, Marsh then coming in to bat at No.10 only to be assisted off once dismissed from his first ball.

An in-form incumbent in both limited-overs sides and a fringe Test player, the 28-year-old has more than two months to recover before Australia plays again.

"A lot of courage from him to walk out there and try his best, but it was unfortunate tonight," compatriot and club captain David Warner told the host broadcaster.

"He's got to get an X-ray, hopefully it's not too bad.

"It doesn't look great. Obviously what you saw out there, it was quite painful, he can't put any weight on it. Fingers crossed."

Hyderabad stumbled badly in their chase, losing 8-42 to be all out for 153 in a 10-run loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Warner was run-out for six, Jonny Bairstow's booming straight drive unluckily deflected off the bowler's hand into the stumps at the non-striker's end.

Aaron Finch made 29 and Australian teammate Josh Philippe, who took the gloves for RCB on his IPL debut, was unbeaten on one.
