Victoria batsmen Will Pucovski and Marcus Harris have been in the Sheffield Shield runs again, this time against Western Australia.

Insatiable Will Pucovski is batting himself ever-closer to Test honours after plundering another unbeaten century for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield.

Picking up where he left off against South Australia, Pucovski logged 183 not out to help the Bushrangers to a commanding 1-322 at stumps on day one against Western Australia.

Having scored 255 not out against the Redbacks as part of a Shield record 486-run partnership with Marcus Harris, Pucovski showed just how hungry he was for more in another all-day epic.

Former Australia opener Harris was also no slouch, contributing 71 as the pair almost batted out the first two sessions with a 186-run partnership at Karen Rolton Oval.

It took a spectacular flying catch from Sam Whiteman to remove Harris off the bowling of Matthew Kelly (1-60).

With incumbent opener Joe Burns yet to register a score of note this season for Queensland, Pucovski is increasingly looking like he can claim a spot for the first Test against India next month.

It was Pucovski's sixth first-class century, with his 302-ball innings featuring 25 boundaries.

WA toiled away on a pitch that offered little assistance, star allrounder Cameron Green (0-15) often looking the man most likely but limited to eight overs as he continues a bowling comeback.

Peter Handscomb (49) was the other not out batsman.
