Some handy lower order runs by Western Australia makes a result increasingly unlikely in their Sheffield Shield match with Victoria.

A breezy century by Josh Inglis and yet more runs from Will Pucovski and Marcus Harris looks to have scuppered hopes of a result in Victoria's Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia.

At stumps on day three, Victoria were 0-61 in their second innings with Pucovski (32) and Harris (24) the not out batsmen.

Earlier on Tuesday, WA had been bowled out for 479 in response to the Bushrangers' 4(dec)-414.

Inglis (125) hadn't scored a century in five years of first-class cricket until October - but he now has two after backing up from his 153 not out against South Australia.

"Obviously I got my first one (century) a few weeks ago, and that was a huge relief," Inglis said.

"It was a lot of fun today."

When Shaun Marsh (135) was dismissed midway through the day, WA were 6-272 as Victoria eyed off a reasonable lead and the time to force a result.

Marsh had been in fine touch, registering his third century of the season before he was given out lbw to Will Sutherland (2-61).

But Inglis, going at more than a run-a-ball, frustrated the Victorian attack, his 93-run stand with D'Arcy Short (48) making a draw the most likely outcome.

Jon Holland was the pick of the Vic bowlers with 4-115.

After a Shield record partnership of 486 last round and an opening stand of 186 in the first innings, Pucovski and Harris again looked unperturbed as they all but snuffed any thoughts WA had of pushing for a win.
