Will Pucovski showed he was human after all, dismissed for 38 as Victoria drew their Sheffield Shield match with Western Australia.

Will Pucovski was finally tamed as Victoria batted out a draw in their Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia at Karen Rolton Oval.

When the sides agreed to call it a day at tea on Wednesday the Bushrangers were 4-199, with Matt Short (32) and Sam Harper (2) remaining not out.

Pucovski (38) was out plumb lbw to Cameron Gannon while his opening partner Marcus Harris (45) followed when he mis-timed a ball to midwicket off the bowling of Aaron Hardie.

Their partnership of 84 was the pair's lowest contribution in a remarkable three-innings stretch that yielded Pucovski 495 runs and Harris 355.

They've produced 756 runs when batting together during that time.

"It's outstanding the way that those two have started. It's taken a lot of pressure off the rest of the side," Victoria coach Chris Rogers said.

"Will - what can you say? He is an incredible talent. Just such a beautiful player to watch.

"The way he goes about it just doesn't seem like he is 22 years of age.

"He is a special one, and hopefully there are bigger and better things for him in the future."

With incumbent Australia opener Joe Burns failing to get a score of substance in five innings for Queensland, Pucovski may well have done enough to bump him from the Test team.

The Shield season goes into hiatus with the first Test against India starting on December 17 at Adelaide Oval.

An extended 17-man squad will be named for Australia on Thursday.

Peter Handscomb (27) and Nic Maddinson (39) were the Victoria batsmen dismissed on Wednesday.

Gannon and Hardie each had two wickets.

With a 134-run lead and one session remaining, the sides agreed a result was unlikely and called the match off.
