Pakistan cricketers still isolating in NZ

3 minute read

Two Pakistan cricketers who tested positive to COVID-19 in New Zealand have been declared historical cases, meaning they have not been infectious.

The Pakistan cricket team remains stranded in hotel quarantine and unable to train with their tour of New Zealand beginning in a fortnight.

The touring party notched nine days in a Christchurch hotel on Thursday, where they are isolating as per NZ's strict COVID-19 regulations.

So far, 10 of the 53-strong travelling party have tested positive to COVID-19 since arriving.

Two of those 10 cases were confirmed on Thursday to be historical, meaning they were not infectious in New Zealand.

Pakistan's players have been reprimanded by health authorities for mingling within their team hotel, in violation of NZ's strict COVID-19 isolation regulations.

On Thursday, the remaining group will undergo another round of scheduled testing.

Those day-nine testing results - expected back on Friday - will be crucial in determining whether the deadly virus has spread further among the group.

Pakistan's first scheduled match of their tour is a T20 match with the Black Caps on December 18.

New Zealand are unbeaten this summer, having trounced the West Indies in two T20s last month ahead of the first Test of their summer against the Caribbeans beginning Thursday.
