AUSTRALIA v INDIA, FIRST TEST, DAY THREE:

Score: Australia 191 and 2-93 bt India 244 and 36

Summary: Australia win by eight wickets to take a 1-0 series lead. India crumble to their lowest-ever Test innings score, 36, with Australian quicks Josh Hazlewood (5-8) and Pat Cummins (4-21) the destroyers. Chasing 90 to win, opener Joe Burns overcomes a nasty blow to his left elbow from a Jasprit Bumrah delivery to score a career-saving 51no.

Man of the moment: Take your pick, Hazlewood or Cummins. The latter started the Indian rot and snared the prized scalps of Cheteshwar Pujara (0) and Virat Kohli (4). The former completed the rout and at one stage had 5-3. Both reached milestones, with Hazlewood taking his 200th Test wicket and Cummins his 150th.

Key moment: Cummins produces a sterling delivery which clips the outside edge of Pujara's bat for a caught-behind dismissal and, in his next over, has Kohli caught at gully.

Stat of the day: Zero. The number of Indians to reach double-figures in their debacle of an innings. Only once before in Test history has that occurred in a completed innings, when all South Africans made single-digit scores against England in 1924.

Quote of the day: "It feels bloody nice ... it's a really nice moment to be walking off with a win for Australia." Joe Burns.

What's next: India travel to Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test without captain Kohli, who returns home for the birth of his first child, and doubts over paceman Mohammed Shami, who retired hurt when hit in an arm by a Cummins delivery. Australia's query is whether David Warner (groin) can prove his fitness and return at the top of the order.
