Brisbane Heat paceman Mark Steketee expects big-hitting captain Chris Lynn to take out his frustrations after a disappointing Big Bash League start against Adelaide.

The Heat host the Strikers in their first match at the Gabba this summer on Wednesday after a poor opening to the tournament in Canberra earlier this month.

Brisbane were beaten in both their matches in the nation's capital by the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder, with former Test captain Ricky Ponting referring to the Heat's death bowling as "absolutely pathetic" in the four-wicket loss to the Thunder.

Lynn, English import Dan Lawrence and the Heat were also fined for breaching COVID protocols while in the Canberra Hub.

Steketee has issued a warning to the Strikers, saying Lynn is eager to let his bat do the talking after such an underwhelming start.

"Lynny's obviously a very experienced player now, he knows he's done the wrong thing and I think he just wants his performances to speak for themselves now," Steketee said.

"He'll be pretty motivated to come out here, first game in front of the Gabba crowd, to prove a point to everyone.

"I reckon he'll be raring to go tomorrow night."

The Strikers arrived in Brisbane on Monday but are likely to face the Heat without Australian international Alex Carey with the wicketkeeper-batsman needing an exemption from South Australia and Queensland health authorities if he's to play.

Carey was in Sydney after December 11 playing for Australia A and didn't get to Queensland from Tasmania before borders closed.

"Might be good for us. He's a pretty handy player," Steketee said.

"Obviously you want to play against the best so it's disappointing at the same time.

"He's been a very good pickup for them over the last couple of seasons ... It's always nice to play against those players and I'm sure he's pretty disappointed that he can't be here as well."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
