AUSTRALIA v INDIA, THIRD TEST, DAY ONE:

Score: Australia 2-166

Summary: A loose shot led to David Warner's downfall in the fourth over after Tim Paine won the toss. Debutant Will Pucovski wasn't unsettled by the new ball, nor a rain delay of almost four hours. Pucovski and Marnus Labuschagne built a solid platform before Labuschagne and Steve Smith shared an unbeaten 60-run stand.

Man of the moment: Pucovski. The 22-year-old prodigy, having been on the cusp of a Test debut during the past two home summers, was finally presented with his baggy green. The Victorian opened the batting, showing plenty of promise in a knock of 62 that drew widespread praise.

Key moment: Take your pick of two catches that India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant put down, reprieving Pucovski on 26 and 32. India believed the second chance was out but the third umpire felt there was conclusive evidence the ball had touched the ground.

Stat of the day: Pucovski and Marnus Labuschagne powered Australia from 1-6 to 2-106. It was Australia's first 100-run Test partnership since January 6, 2020.

Quote of the day: "Whatever challenges are in front of you, this group around you will help you through," Andrew McDonald delivered a stirring speech while presenting fellow Victorian Pucovski with his cap.
