AUSTRALIA v INDIA, THIRD TEST, DAY FIVE:

Score: Australia 338 & 6(dec)-312, India 244 & 5-334.

Result: Match drawn.

Summary: India's hopes of completing a record-breaking chase of 407 were given a boost by Rishabh Pant, who showed few signs of his arm injury in a freewheeling knock of 97. Nathan Lyon claimed the key scalp. The tourists gave up trying to win late in the second session and negotiated the final session without losing a wicket, setting the stage for a winner-takes-all Test in Brisbane.

Man of the moment: Ravichandran Ashwin. A day after calling for racial abuse to be stamped out with an "iron fist", the offspinner stood up with the bat for India. Ashwin finished 39 not out after facing 128 balls, having weathered painful blows to the body and barbs from Tim Paine.

Key moment: Any one of the three catches that Paine put down. Pant was reprieved on three and 56 in the morning session. A diving Paine then grassed what proved to be Australia's final chance of the game, coming with 9.2 overs remaining.

Stat of the day: India held on for 131 overs to salvage a draw. They haven't batted for so long in the fourth innings of a Test since 1979.

Quote of the day: "I'm bitterly disappointed. I pride myself on my wicketkeeping and I haven't had too many worse days than that, it's a horrible feeling ... I let them (bowlers) down," Paine on his dropped catches.
