Star allrounder Mitch Marsh says he still has plenty of drive to play for Australia, but concedes Cameron Green is deservedly in front of him in the Test pecking order.

Marsh's hopes of a Test call-up this summer were cruelled when he suffered a serious ankle injury while playing in the IPL.

That setback opened the door for his WA teammate Green to step into Test ranks, and the 21-year-old has impressed with a couple of impressive knocks.

Marsh has been in hot form in the BBL this season, averaging 46.75 with the bat at a strike rate of 143, and 18.75 with the ball at an economy rate of 6.81.

His hot streak was rewarded with a four-year contract extension with the Perth Scorchers on Monday.

Marsh would love to earn a recall for Australia in all formats, but he knows he has to maintain his strong form to earn it.

"I've still got a lot of drive to play for Australia, but what I've learned over the years is you can't worry about it too much," Marsh said.

"What's in front of me is tomorrow's game against the Hurricanes.

"You wake up every day trying to get better and perform for your team wherever you're playing, and the rest takes care of itself.

"But right now that's certainly Greeny's spot (in the Test team) and he thoroughly deserves it. He's one of the best talents we've ever had.

"I'm so happy for him. I'm always here to talk to him if he needs, but I'm not sure he's going to need me at all."

Marsh's recent purple patch has helped the Scorchers go from last to fifth on the ladder on the back of a four-match winning run.

The 29-year-old was named Scorchers captain at the end of 2018 but he temporarily relinquished the role to Ashton Turner at the start of this season so he could concentrate on recovering from the ankle injury he sustained in the IPL.

Marsh initially planned to retake the captaincy after a few games but he enjoyed the freedom so much that he decided to allow Turner to retain the role for the rest of this campaign.

The move has paid big dividends, and it remains to be seen whether Marsh will relinquish the captaincy next season as well.

Star New Zealand recruit Colin Munro (quad) remains in doubt for Tuesday's crunch clash with the Hobart Hurricanes at Optus Stadium.
