Sydney Thunder skipper Callum Ferguson says 19-year-old spinner Tanveer Sangha is ready to play Twenty20 cricket for Australia on their tour of New Zealand.

Teenage tweaker Tanveer Sangha has proved he is ready to step up and debut for Australia, according to Sydney Thunder captain Callum Ferguson.

Sangha was one of Thunder's biggest success stories during their Big Bash League campaign, which ended with a seven-wicket loss to Brisbane Heat at Manuka Oval.

The legspinner put down a catch, and was carted for two sixes in an over during Sam Heazlett's match-winning knock of 74 not out.

But he is set to cap a memorable debut season by being the BBL's most prolific spinner this summer, having snaring 21 wickets at 18.28.

The 19-year-old will soon embark on a Twenty20 tour of New Zealand, where Ferguson believes that national selectors should blood him at some stage.

"He is ready. He will get better and better. I'd love to see him get a taste sooner rather than later," Sangha said.

"He learns really quickly. He's been a pleasure to captain.

"Whenever we have thrown him a challenge - bringing another fielder in or trying a new plan which he might not have tried ever before - he's taken to it like a duck to water.

"They're certainly attributes you need to be successful at the international level in my experience and from what I've seen from the best in the world."

Sangha is yet to play Sheffield Shield cricket, meaning he could soon follow in the footsteps of David Warner.

Warner memorably launched his international career by becoming the first man since 1877 to represent Australia before playing a first-class match.

Ferguson, who played 34 games for Australia, noted he and other teammates will help pick up Sangha's spirits after Sunday's defeat.

"Our senior players will put an arm around him, but the young players will too," Ferguson said.

Meanwhile, Ferguson declared he is keen to continue at the Thunder next season after seeking to pick up some gigs on the global T20 circuit.
