About 28,500 spectators will permitted to watch the BBL final at the SCG after authorities lifted the crowd capacity.

The Sydney Sixers will host the Saturday night decider against the winner of Thursday's knockout game between the Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat.

The increase of the the SCG's crowd capacity to 75 per cent was ratified by NSW Health on Tuesday as part of the venue's updated COVID safety plan.

All initial tickets sold out within an hour on Monday, with a further allocation to go on sale on Wednesday.

Cricket Australia's head of Big Bash Leagues Alistair Dobson says he's grateful for health authorities agreeing to the boost in crowd size for what will be the first BBL game in Sydney this tournament.

Dobson says the opening three matches of the finals series have been watched on television by almost three million people.
