Michael Klinger has quit as coach of Melbourne Renegades in the BBL.

Klinger, who oversaw a Renegades outfit which finished last in his two tournaments in charge, has resigned and taken a job as Cricket NSW's head of male cricket.

"Although the seasons didn't go to plan, I thoroughly enjoyed my time as head coach," Klinger said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Renegades' general manager David Lever said Klinger's tenure had been cruelled by issues beyond his control.

"Despite injuries and unavailability of key players, limited preparation time in his first season and an extended period on the road in his second season, Maxy (Klinger) never looked for excuses," Lever said in a statement.

Lever said the Renegades would begin an immediate search for Klinger's replacement.
