New Zealand will expose boom recruit Devon Conway to more international cricket, naming the South African immigrant for the Black Caps ODI series with Bangladesh.

The 29-year-old joins Will Young and Daryl Mitchell as three new ODI squad members for the three-game series beginning on March 20.

Conway scored the highest individual innings of the recent T20 series with Australia, tallying 99 not out in a masterful knock in Christchurch.

The 29-year-old has been tipped to make a Test debut soon, and given Kane Williamson's absence for this short-form series, is likely to get another chance to impress in the XI.

Williamson is resting after being diagnosed with a left elbow ligament tear following the T20 series.

Selector Gavin Larsen said wicketkeeper Tom Latham will captain in his absence.

"We're now in a new World Cup cycle and our attention has turned to building towards the 2023 tournament in India," he said.

""Devon, Will and Daryl are quality players and have enjoyed impressive seasons so far, and we're looking forward to giving them further opportunities to develop their game at this level."

Mitchell Santner is the only specialist spinner in the 13-man squad, which Larsen said was due to the three pitches used in the series.

World Cup-final pair Lockie Ferguson and Colin de Grandhomme missed out due to injury.

The series starts in Dunedin, before game two in Christchurch on March 23 and game three at Wellington's Basin Reserve on March 26.

New Zealand will then play three T20 matches against Bangladesh before heading to England for two Tests and the World Test Championship final against India.

NEW ZEALAND SQUAD v BANGLADESH:

Tom Latham (c), Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Will Young.
