Labuschagne helps Queensland smash SA

3 minute read

Queensland have dominated their one-day clash with South Australia in Brisbane, cruising to a 160-run win thanks largely to Marnus Labuschagne's 82.

Test star Marnus Labuschagne has lifted Queensland to a 160-run win over South Australia in their one-day clash at Brisbane's Allan Border Field.

Labuschagne top-scored with 82 from 80 balls in the Bulls' total of 6-321.

Former Test batsmen Usman Khawaja (50) and Matthew Renshaw (56) also posted half-centuries for the hosts, as did opener Sam Heazlett (65).

The runs came freely and easily in the sunshine, with Queensland's past nine days of cricket having been ruined because of rain.

SA's miserable season continued as they collapsed to 3-53, 7-122 and were eventually rolled for 161 in 34.5 overs, with opener Jake Weatherald (68) unable to form a partnership of substance.

Travis Head, who won the toss and opted to bowl, was out for 16 when he slapped Billy Stanlake's delivery to Khawaja at point.

Left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann snagged 4-37 from 7.5 overs to finish Queensland's leading wicket-taker.

SA are yet to post a one-day or Sheffield Shield win this season, while Queensland are undefeated in the 50-over format and currently top the Shield table.

Labuschagne crashed six fours and three sixes before masterminding his own downfall.

The 26-year-old stepped across and tried to sweep a ball from paceman Daniel Worrall, only for the top edge to be snaffled by Spencer Johnson.

Many of Labuschagne's Test teammates will soon depart for the Indian Premier League, but the right-hander will play out the rest of the domestic season after going unsold in the auction.
