Legspinner Georgia Wareham has suffered a quad injury in Australia's second ODI against India.

Australia's injury woes have deepened after legspinner Georgia Wareham suffered a quad injury while fielding in her side's second ODI against India.

Wareham trudged off the field in Mackay during the early stages of India's innings.

The Victorian, who delivered 10 overs in Australia's series-opening win on Tuesday but was yet to roll the arm over on Friday, was not expected to return to the field.

Australia's depth, particularly that of its bowling attack, is being tested during the multi-format series against India.

Megan Schutt and Jess Jonassen, the world's two best ODI bowlers according to the International Cricket Council's rankings, are missing the entire series.

Fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck is sitting out all three ODIs and next week's Test before aiming to return for the Twenty20 section of India's tour.

Opener Rachael Haynes scored 93 in the first ODI then sat out Friday's match because of a blow to the elbow in the nets on Thursday.

Nicola Carey, who missed Tuesday's game because on an abdominal strain, replaced Haynes in Australia's XI.

Haynes is hopeful she will be cleared to return in Sunday's third and final ODI.

Coach Matthew Mott has made it clear the depleted squad's bowlers will have to be carefully managed in coming weeks.

Team medicos were particularly concerned about the group of players, including Wareham, who spent a fortnight in hard quarantine after landing in Brisbane.

"We've prepared as well as we could have. In an ideal world we probably would do it differently," captain Meg Lanning admitted on Monday.

"There were a few nervous medical people (after the quarantine period) but everyone's pulled up really well."
