Bright, blue skies have greeted Australia's cricketers in Brisbane on Thursday morning ahead of day two of the first Ashes Test against England.

An afternoon thunderstorm washed out the entire evening session on day one at the Gabba, delaying Australia's innings after bowling out the tourists for 147 in their first innings.

Openers David Warner and Marcus Harris will start Australia's innings at the earlier time of 9.30am AEST as the hosts look to take further control and establish a big lead.

Despite the beautiful sunny start to the day, the Bureau of Meteorology is still forecasting a shower or two around the Gabba on Thursday with a possible storm in the afternoon or evening.

Currently it's 25 degrees Celsius with a maximum temperature expected of 33. Humidity is at 61 per cent.

England have opted not to pick either Stuart Broad or James Anderson for the Test, the first time since 2006 neither of the veteran quicks have featured in an Ashes clash.

In their place Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood will lead the pace attack along with superstar allrounder Ben Stokes, while Jack Leach will also have a role to play as the team's spin option.
