Matthew Wade led the way with a quickfire 93 as the Hobart Hurricanes scored a thumping BBL victory over the Sydney Sixers.

World Cup hero Matthew Wade has produced a scintillating display to lead the Hobart Hurricanes to a crushing 44-run BBL victory over the Sydney Sixers at the SCG.

Wade was on fire from the outset of Saturday night's match, scoring 48 of Hobart's first 50 runs on the way to 93 off 46 balls.

The 33-year-old struck nine fours and five sixes during his blistering innings, while D'Arcy Short (73no off 51 balls) and Caleb Jewell (42 off 23 balls) also produced important knocks as Hobart reached a formidable 2-213.

In reply, the Sixers were 0-42 after 4.3 overs before a short rain delay meant their revised victory target under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method was 196 from 18 overs

Opener Josh Philippe (72 off 46 balls) made the most of a couple of lives to give his side a chance of victory, but he lacked support as the Sixers finished on 4-151.

Hurricanes paceman Joel Paris (3-35) led the way with the ball, while Tim David (0-8 off two overs) and Sandeep Lamichhane (0-24 off four overs) put the heat on the Sixers with economical performances.

The victory for Hobart was sweet revenge after they lost to the Sixers by 14 runs three days earlier.

Wade, whose unbeaten 41 off 17 balls guided Australia to victory over Pakistan in their semi-final at the T20 World Cup, cracked five boundaries off Tom Curran in the second over to help set the tone.

Hobart reached 0-54 from their four-over powerplay, and Wade reached his half-century off 19 balls in what was the fastest 50 ever by a Hurricanes player.

Wade's knock came to an end in the 12th over when he was caught in the deep, but the dismissal only served to fire Short into action.

Short flourished the longer the innings went, launching some lofty blows alongside Jewell to help lift the total past 200.

Sixers paceman Curran (1-46 off three overs) and import Chris Jordan (1-51 off four overs) copped the bulk of the punishment.

"I think we were only 17 in the first four (overs) the last time we played," Wade told Fox Sports.

"It's my job to get us off to a good start. Thankfully I got a few out of the middle today."

Philippe was on fire for the Sixers, but he had a little help along the way.

The star opener was on 41 when he was dropped by Jordan Thompson in the deep, with the wet ball slipping right through his hands.

Moises Henriques (26no off 25 balls) was dropped on two in the same Lamichhane over after Peter Handscomb grassed a regulation catch at cover.

Philippe also received a life on 66 when Wade missed an easy stumping after the ball bounced off his chest and gloves, but it made little difference.
