AUSTRALIA v ENGLAND, SECOND TEST, DAY THREE:

Score: Australia 9(dec)-473 and 1-45 versus England 236.

Summary: Dawid Malan (80) and Joe Root (62) put on a 138-run partnership before the tourists collapse, losing 8-86. Australia then build their lead to an imposing 282 runs with nine second-innings wickets in hand.

Man of the moment: Australian paceman Mitchell Starc takes 4-37 and becomes the first bowler to claim 50 wickets in day-night Tests. His 50 pink-ball victims come at the superb average of 18.10.

Key moment: Root's dismissal. He barely played a false shot before edging to slip from the bowling of Cameron Green, who has now taken his wicket in consecutive innings. The English skipper's removal starts the eight-wicket slide.

Stat of the day: Eight. The number of Test half-centuries Root has made in Australia without converting any into a ton.

Quote of the day: "It's back to the bad old days for England, so defensive, so negative ... stupid mistakes." Former England spinner Graeme Swann on the Seven Network.
