Travis Head is set to link with Australia teammates at the SCG on Friday, when he could potentially be substituted into the fourth Test if required.

Head tested positive to COVID-19 after last week's MCG Test.

The result put Cricket Australia into a spin, prompting selectors to add cover players Mitch Marsh, Nic Maddinson and Josh Inglis to an enlarged Test squad amid fears of an outbreak.

But Australia haven't reported another COVID-19 case among their players and support staff since Head's diagnosis.

And the hosts expect Head, who has already returned a negative test, will be cleared to return to the squad on day three of the SCG Test.

Head could then be used as a substitute for a concussion or COVID-19 case.

"Head's isolation period ends tomorrow. He tested negative this morning and will be subject to another RAT test tomorrow morning," a CA statement said.

"If negative, as anticipated, he will fly to Sydney.

"He will then have one final RAT on Friday which, if negative as is anticipated, will allow him to rejoin the group."
