The Sydney Sixers' 6-150 proved enough against the Melbourne Renegades, claiming a 45-run win in Geelong.
Another Melbourne Renegades batting collapse has allowed the Sydney Sixers to cruise through for a Big Bash victory in Geelong.
After posting 6-150, the Sixers' quicks then landed early blows and were always in control on their way to a 45-run win on Tuesday.
Ben Dwarshuis benefited from the Renegades' woes, finishing with the outstanding bowling figures of 5-26 from his four overs.
Sixers' captain Moises Henriques said he'd initially felt his side's total could leave them vulnerable, before his dynamic pace attack swung the game.
"We thought we were a little bit short, but once we saw what the ball was doing in the first four or five overs, I thought we had plenty," he told Channel Seven.
"What I love about this bowling attack is you've got to take risks to score runs ... they don't bowl you any bad balls where you just get a free hit. You've got to really be proactive to take boundaries."
After electing to bat, the Sixers lost early wickets including Josh Phillippe for a duck third ball but found a powerful 40 from opener Jack Edwards, the youngster hitting three fours and a six in the strong knock.
Captain Moises Henriques made an enterprising 49, his four fours and a six proving pivotal in an average total.
Dan Christian's 22 was also important, while Daniel Hughes whacked 17.
Former Australia T20 representative Cameron Boyce took 2-15 from his four overs in his first BBL game in two years, having missed last season with a serious health complaint and the beginning of this one with a calf injury.
The Sixers landed an early double blow in the chase, with openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Aaron Finch both out lbw to Jackson Bird and Sean Abbott respectively in the opening two overs, leaving the Renegades 2-11.
A vital partnership formed between Shaun Marsh and Nic Maddinson and they pushed on to 2-41 before young spinner Todd Murphy had the latter stumped for nine for his first BBL wicket.
But from 3-65, the Renegades fell apart losing a quick 3-8, including the vital wicket of Marsh who chopped one onto his stumps for 39, leaving his side 6-73.
The Sixers cleaned up the tail and bowled them out for 105, with Abbott (2-18) also chipping in.
The win sets up a crunch encounter on Saturday night, where the third-ranked Sixers will tackle cross-town rivals Sydney Thunder, who currently sit second.
"We got the better of them earlier this year. Hopefully, we take some confidence out of tonight's match after a couple of lean games and we go and play our best cricket against them next fixture," Henriques said.
