AUSTRALIA v ENGLAND, FIFTH TEST, DAY THREE:

Score: Australia 303 & 155 defeated England 188 & 124 by 146 runs.

SUMMARY: Australia resumed at 3-37 and scrapped to a lead of 270 on the back of 49 from Alex Carey, who rode his luck. England speedster Mark Wood did the bulk of the damage with a career-best 6-37. The visitors were 0-68 in the chase but collapsed in the final session after boom allrounder Cameron Green made the initial breakthrough. England lost 10-56 to end the series as 4-0 losers.

MAN OF THE MOMENT: Green got rid of Rory Burns in the final over of the second session to end a lively 68-run opening stand - England's best of the summer. He returned after the intermission to remove Zac Crawley and Dawid Malan in a six over spell that yielded 3-21.

KEY MOMENT: England skipper Joe Root was sent packing for 11 in the final session by red-hot quick Scott Boland, whose back-of-a-length delivery kept low and clattered into the stumps.

STAT OF THE DAY: Zero. The number of overs bowled across the match by Nathan Lyon, with Australia relying on their four-pronged pace attack.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "It's been a really tough tour for us. We've just not managed to string a whole game together" - Joe Root.
