Aussie in US senior amateur final again

3 minute read

Australia's Sue Wooster has won through to the final of the US Senior Women's Amateur for a second straight year.

What are the odds?

Australian golfer Sue Wooster has won through to the final of the US Senior Women's Amateur Championship for a second consecutive year and she will meet the same opponent in the decider.

Wooster, the No.34 seed, fought through two nail-biters on Wednesday, edging out both Ireland's Laura Webb in the quarter-finals and Californian Caryn Wilson in the semis 1-up at Cedar Rapids CC in Iowa.

By contrast, defending champion Lara Tennant (Oregon) had relatively comfortable wins as she set up a title rematch with the Australian.

Wooster is from the same club - Victoria GC in Melbourne - as teenager Gabi Ruffels, who recently won the US Women's Amateur.

Asked what she took out of last year's final, which Tennant won 3 and 2, 57-year-old Wooster said: "Losing."

"Imagine, 140 players and it comes down to us again. I'm just going to give it my all.

"Last year, I felt like my game was a lot better. It's been kind of all over the place and I just sort of play by feel.

"My putting has been good. It's just amazing.

"Last year because I was hitting the ball really well and I was hitting lots of greens, this year just sheer determination to try and make the final again."

It is the first time in 58 editions of the US Senior Women's Amateur that the finalists from the previous year will meet again in the decider.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
