Four months after fearing retirement with a broken wrist and no feeling in his fingers, Australian golfer Cameron Percy has a rare luxury as he tees up in this week's US secondary tour finale.

Younger countrymen Curtis Luck, Jamie Arnold, Cameron Davis and Brett Coletta all face a nerve-wracking last chance to play their way onto the US PGA Tour at the Korn Ferry Tour championship in Indiana starting Friday.

But Percy, along with Rhein Gibson, is already assured of promotion.

For a sixth time in his career 45-year-old journeyman Percy has battled his way back onto the main tour, but this has been the most remarkable fightback of them all.

He has endured a brutal four months since fracturing his wrist during a fall while on a family holiday in April.

Having spent three weeks in a cast, the Victorian admitted he feared retirement.

"It was a massive possibility," Percy told AAP on Wednesday.

"I had pins and needles for months and at one point (in July) I couldn't feel anything in my fingers."

The Korn Ferry Tour awards 50 cards for the PGA Tour each year - the top 25 on the regular season points list and the top 25 earners in the three-tournament finals series.

Percy played a total of 10 events in the regular season, including a withdrawal from the BMW Charity Pro-Am when the pain was too severe.

But consecutive ties for 11th in the first two finals events, where points are doubled, have given Percy enough to regain status on the PGA Tour for the 2019-20 season.

Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Percy admits he "doesn't have many" fights left like this year given he wants to spend more time with his three children and coach their sporting teams.

But at least this week he knows what his future holds.

"I didn't sleep well last week trying to lock up my card, but this week will be pretty relaxed so hopefully I play well," Percy said.

"It'd be nice to make enough money on the PGA Tour next season to walk away from the game but you never know."

Korn Ferry Tour experts have projected 210 finals points to be enough to remain in the top 25.

That means Luck (165 points) will likely need to finish 33rd while Arnold (130) will need at least 22nd place, Davis (75.6) at least 12th and Coletta (0) at least sixth.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
