Australia's former US Masters champion Adam Scott will return at the PGA Tour's Houston Open after testing positive to COVID-19.

Adam Scott's tilt for a second US Masters triumph is back on track with the Australian cleared to return from a positive COVID-19 test at the Houston Open.

Scott will make his PGA Tour return alongside world No.1 and fellow coronavirus sufferer Dustin Johnson, the pair in the same opening-round group at Memorial Park Golf Course in Texas from Friday morning (AEDT).

The Masters, where Scott prevailed in 2013, begins next week and there were fears the in-form Queenslander would miss his shot at a second green jacket after he tested positive to the coronavirus and missed last month's Zozo Championship in California.

The former world No.1 shot up to sixth in the world rankings after a breakthrough at Gold Coast's Australian PGA Championship was followed by victory at the Genesis Invitational in February.

That win snapped nearly four years without a title in the United States, his form cooling in a smattering of appearances since then.

Jason Day, Matt Jones, Greg Chalmers and Cameron Davis are the other Australians in the field.
