PGA Tour stars Adam Scott and Matt Jones have clinched their spots in next month's US Open field but former world No.1 Jason Day remains in doubt.

Adam Scott and Matt Jones have officially made the US Open field but Jason Day's near-decade-long streak of major appearances remains in the balance.

Scott and Jones secured their tickets to Torrey Pines next month after maintaining their positions in the world's top 60 as of this week's cut-off.

The pair will join fellow US PGA Tour stars Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith plus less-celebrated compatriots Wade Ormsby and Brad Kennedy at the year's third major starting on June 17.

Ormsby qualified as the top finisher on the 2020 Asian Tour Final Order of Merit, while Kennedy earned his spot as the top finisher on the 2020 PGA Tour of Australasia Final Order of Merit.

Ormsby, who won last year's Hong Kong Open by relegating 2019 British Open champion Shane Lowry to runner-up, will be contesting just his second major championship.

The 40-year-old Ormsby missed the cut at the 2017 US Open at Erin Hills.

Kennedy will be playing in his third major after missing the cut at the 2011 and 2012 British Opens.

Day has contested 34 consecutive majors since that Open nine years ago, posting an impressive 13 top-10 finishes during that stint, including his victory at the 2015 US PGA Championship.

But the former world No.1 has slipped outside the top 60.

Having ruled out taking part in sectional qualifying, Day has one last chance to clinch a spot in the field at Torrey Pines, the scene of two of his 12 PGA Tour victories.

He will need a big result - most likely a top five - at the Memorial Tournament in his adopted home state of Ohio from June 3.
