Fathers light fuse for Kambosos title shot

The fathers of George Kambosos and Teofimo Lopez have done their bit to set the scene ahead of their unified lightweight world title fight in New York.

As if it wasn't spicy enough, the fathers of George Kambosos and Teofimo Lopez have upped the ante ahead of Sunday's unified world title fight during a fiery press conference in New York.

Australian upstart Kambosos (19-0) is an outsider to topple Lopez (16-0) and bring home the lightweight IBF, WBA and WBO belts from Madison Square Garden's Hulu Theatre in a bout that's been rescheduled a staggering six times.

There is no shortage of confidence in the Kambosos camp though, father and manager Jim doing his bit to stoke the fire this week in the Big Apple.

After physically clashing in a gymnasium during a media opportunity with Lopez's father and trainer Teofimo Lopez Snr earlier in the week, it was on again in a pre-fight press conference that descended into chaos.

Sitting in the audience, Jim Kambosos couldn't resist firing back when Lopez Snr predicted an easy night out for his son.

It appeared to rattle the Lopez camp, Lopez Snr telling George Kambosos "you just ****** up yourself bro ... when you wake up in the hospital on Sunday you're going to regret what you're doing right now".

George Kambosos cooly replied "you're going to be in hospital too, you're going to have a heart attack, a cry, when your son gets put to sleep".

The Australian later jokingly suggested that "we might as well throw them (the fathers) on the undercard".

But he was deadly serious explaining why he would have the last laugh in a fight that could lead to a high-profile stadium defence on home soil next year.

"You're the big celebrity in the bright lights - I've been in the dark, in the trenches, in the gym," Kambosos said while staring down Lopez.

"The hard work, blood sweat and tears; I'm hungry and ready for war.

"I'm ready for business."

Lopez stuck by his early comments that he would end the fight in the first round.

"When we're in that ring there is no business," he said.

"You haven't even made it and you're acting like your **** don't stink.

"He can be hungry ... but I'm starving, they're poking sticks at me in the cage, I'm a lion."
