A run down of sports at the Invictus Games

A list of the 2018 Invictus Games sports and a description of what they entail.

ARCHERY

* Competitors can either be seated or standing and if impaired in the upper body or arm can shoot from the mouth

* Individual men's and women's divisions, as well as mixed team events in three categories

ATHLETICS

* Events are split up depending on a competitor's disability - limb amputations, visual impairment, increased tightness of muscles (hypertonia), and brain injuries

* There are 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m track events plus two relays

* Competitors discus and shot put can be seated or standing

ROAD CYCLING

* A two-day event with four main categories: road bike, hand bike, recumbent bike and tandem bike

* For the time trial competitors race over a single loop 2.4km course

* Riders in the criterium or circuit race start together and race over several laps of a 2.4km course

INDOOR ROWING

* A rowing machine fit with adaptive gripping aids and modified seats opens up this one to competitors with all levels of impairment

* The machine simulates the action of traditional watercraft rowing

* There are two races - a one-minute individual sprint and a four-minute individual endurance event

JAGUAR LAND ROVER DRIVING CHALLENGE

* Accuracy, navigation and teamwork are preferenced over time, as this challenge is about driving skills rather than a traditional race

* The course will either be road-based or involve off-road obstacles

* Vehicles will be prepared the same way and considered identical in performance

POWERLIFTING

* There are three categories: lightweight, midweight and heavyweight

* Competitors have three attempts to bench press the bar.

* Whoever lifts the heaviest weight wins

SAILING

* The first time this event has been at the Invictus Games

* Qualifying rounds are open to novice sailors and master mariners

* In the medal race, individuals compete in a Hansa dinghy

* Mixed gender teams will use Elliott 7 keelboats

SITTING VOLLEYBALL

* Teams compete in round robin tournaments before winners go through the championship round

* Competitors must remain connected to their seat whenever they make contact with the ball

SWIMMING

* Swimmers will compete in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

* There are individual and relay events

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL

* The court size and height of the net is the same as stand-up basketball

* Competitors in wheelchairs must bounce the ball after every two pushes of their wheels

* Teams must have five players on the court at all times

WHEELCHAIR RUGBY

* Teams can be made up of men and women but must include four players

* To score a goal, players touch the goal line with two wheels of their wheelchair while in possession of the ball.

* Players can either dribble or carry the ball towards their goal end
